CHANTEL BASH

PHOTOGRAPHY + VIDEOGRAPHY

BASED IN VANCOUVER, WA

I was born in Moscow, Idaho but grew up in a small town called Albion in Washington. Growing up I didn't have much access to the world. I didn't have internet or cable TV. I grew up on my imagination and creativity. When I was little I wanted to be an actress like the ones in the movies. I was fascinated with what went on behind the scenes of movie making. I moved to Vancouver, Washington at the age of 14 years old and started high school in late September. Because I started late I didn't get the classes I really wanted back then. My counselor put me in a class called Video Production 1 because the Theater class I wanted was full. I thought I was going to hate being in video production and that it was going to be very hard to edit videos but found it surprisingly very easy. After a while a grew camera shy and didn't want to be the one getting filmed. I liked being one that filmed.

When I was in high school I also dabbled a little bit in photography and Photoshop but it wasn't until I got my camera that I really learned that I liked doing it, taking photos that is. I got my camera my Junior year in high school. The minute I got it in the mail I went out and started taking photos of everything I saw. My eyes opened the reality of picture taking.  After I graduated high school I started at Clark Community College and took as many photo classes as I could. The more I learned the more I fell in love with the beauty and reality of what life really means. I love to take photos of people when they don't expect it. I want to be a photographer that shows the real hardship of how life can be and how things aren't always perfect behind those smiles we all wear. I put emotions into my photos because emotions are what makes us human and what changes people's perspectives of life.
